The following two reports from Reuters suggest that further violence in Nigeria is continuing to take more oil production off line.  One report says the recent violence upsurge is responsible for reducing exports by about 150 kb/d.   It is not clear whether the $6 rise in the oil price today was due to Nigerian issues [...]

It appears that GM has fallen in love.  It is committing its future to a plug-in hybrid power plant, and its new beloved does look beautiful.  It promises the dual benefit of virtually unlimited miles per gallon of gasoline if the owner drives only 40 miles before recharging plus offering a standard 300 mile range [...]

A report posted below states that the Kashagan field will begin producing at a rate of 150 kb/d, growing to 370 kb/d in 2014.  This is more optimistic than recent reports saying the field will not start producing until 2014. Eni to Produce First Oil From Kashagan Field in 2012 (Update1)By Eduard GismatullinSept. 18 (Bloomberg) — [...]

I think oil will trade in a range of $80 - $100 a barrel in the foreseeable future, probably another year.  Why?  First supply and demand:  Vectors for a lower price include roughly 3 mb/d  of reduced demand from the U.S. (about 1 mb/d) and more Saudi supply (about 2 mb/d) vs. a year ago.  [...]

Mr. Buffett’s investment tends to validate two concepts: that electric vehicles will become increasingly important and that a cost effective lithium ion battery can be part of the solution in the short term.  That is more good news for SQM, the world’s largest lithium supplier.  One negative to keep in mind is that demand for [...]
